Making Mukluks

One of the teachers at our school is doing Julie of the Wolvesas her classroom read-aloud and for Christmas she would like to give each of her students a piece of deer hide so that they can sew their own mukluks.

What an amazing idea! She's canvassing her friends as to sources of hides and one person suggested looking in thrift shops for old sheepskin coats. I thought this might be doable for the homeschooler so I'm passing the tip along. Here's a website full of links for Making Native American Moccasins. One of the links (this one) even has a free downloadable pattern for a woman's size 7 available as a pdf. So enjoy the links and stay warm this winter!
