Homeschool Teacher Training

Barbara Dewey is once again offering her fabulously approachable team of homeschooler training staff... her conferences are held at her farm, Taproot Farm, in Ohio. Accommodations are comfy, meals are family style, there are singalongs at the lake in the evenings, and everyone has a good time. If you want an intimate setting instead of a hotel room, these are the conferences for you.

I've taken the sessions with Royse (current grades teacher) and Jean (current homeschooling parent) and they are both friendly, knowledgeable, and wonderful!

Conference Info - Eugene Schwartz

Here's this summer's conference schedule for Eugene Schwartz. He was the keynote speaker at the Bringing Waldorf Home conference the year before last and I met him. We also were part of a round table panel together on special challenges for homeschoolers. He's a great resource!

Kimberton, PA
Grade One Conference: June 15 - June 17, 2011
Grade Two Conference: June 22 - June 24, 2011
Grade Three Conference: June 29 - July 1, 2011

Mancos, CO
Grades 4 and 5: July 6 - 13, 2011

Waldorf Today

If you are learning about Waldorf, I highly recommend signing up for the excellent weekly newsletter at Waldorf Today. Type your email address under the tree on the right-hand side, where it says join the mailing address, and hit Go!

They have a wonderful gallery of images of student work from around the world.

It's also a good spot to find Waldorf-related vendors, if you're in the mood to shop.

Or to find job listings, if you're in the mood to change your employment situation.

Fat and Sugar

We continue with Health... here is a great website if you want to do the classic fat/sugar presentation for fast food items. Ask students to list their favorites and then use a kitchen scale, Crisco, and sugar cubes to demonstrate the (sometimes shocking) mass in grams of fat and sugar contained in those items.

I was completely bowled over to find that a McDonald's chocolate milkshake has 33 grams of fat and 163 grams of sugar.

Fast Food Facts -- simply choose the restaurant name and menu item from the drop down box and the Nutrition Labels will be displayed.
