Ideas for the Seasons: AUTUMN

Consider how you could explore the classic images of each season, and focus on using all of your senses. It should be a really rich and joyful main lesson!

Brainstorm ideas for the season of AUTUMN:

  • read And the Good Brown Earth by Kathy Henderson and brainstorm images of Autumn

  • dye wool yarn with acorns and/or black walnuts (you can also collect the black walnuts and freeze them whole to use later in dyes)

  • make Felt Wee Folk or flower fairies with acorn cap hats

  • do Positive / Negative Art of apples and pears
  • make Crockpot Applesauce
  • read Spiders Spin Webs by Yvonne Winer; do spider web artwork using an oil pastel and watercolor resist

  • read The Pumpkin Giant and make Chalk Stenciled Pumpkins
  • make Chai-Infused Pumpkin Pie Smoothie (I double the pumpkin puree)
  • read "Migration" poem from Creatures of Earth, Sea, and Sky by Georgia Heard, page 15; go birdwatching

  • read I Like To Be Little or Say It! by Charlotte Zolotow; take a nature walk; make Shaving Cream Marbled Leaves
