Menu for "Today Is Monday"

The 6-9 year olds are making 2022 calendars as parent gifts, as we do every year. It's a well-loved tradition! I love choosing seasonal artwork for us to create. This is also a fantastic chance to practice writing numbers so it's an excellent follow up to the Quality of Numbers block.

The calendar project also gives us a chance to talk briefly about the 12 months (I recommend Anno's Counting Book for this) and the 7 days of the week. I didn't do the days of the week for the number 7 but it would have worked well. Eric Carle's book Today is Monday is my favorite book for this.

Jamie York has clocks & calendars in 2nd grade but in Waldorf it is traditionally done in 3rd grade. That is when we will work on memorizing them in earnest as well as learning the story behind each day/month name.

I know that as soon as I read this book to Zac he will want to try it, and I should plan to have these foods for dinner on each day of the week. So I am planning to use our week off school for Thanksgiving for this project!

Grab some egg noodles and a can of mushroom soup and turn leftover roast beef and juices into Easy Beef Stroganoff!
