Last year we had "Baby Fruits & Vegetables" as the party theme (I got him the honeybee birthday ring ornament from Nova Natural) and we invited over all of my adult friends who had offered the kids and me so much support when we were living in the battered women's shelter in Mar/Apr. We had a big picnic in the yard and a seed packet swap, and celebrated our safe return home. So the recipe focus was fresh produce. Zac's "cake" was a blackberry and pound cake trifle with an amazing ginger syrup.
This year we are doing an extended family party, with aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents, and I think the recipe focus is again going to be fresh produce because I have several people coming who have diabetes. As far as the theme for party goods and the birthday ring, I'm thinking train. The City of New Orleans comes through our town and Zac just loves to hear the train whistle blow. He signs "train" every time.

They ALL sound so good! How will I ever decide what to serve??? Now I'm off to buy him some cute train pajamas for birthday bedtime!

Here are the four I chose. The girls and I each made one:
Whole-Grain Strawberry-Cherry Crisp
Berries with Buttermilk and Honey
Fresh Fruit with Applesauce-Sweetened Tahini
Lemon Cream with Blackberries
And I drew this train on the chalkboard, with the name of each recipe in a train car. Doubled as a decoration and a party menu.
Whoo! Whoo! Zac is two!
