Coloring Pages for the 50 U.S. States

I am not a fan of coloring pages at all, but here we are.

While researching how to plant dye natural fibers with acorns, I came across some info on making acorn ink. And Rebecca Desnos says that the same process can be used with other plant materials: "You can actually use my recipe with other tannin rich plants, such as oak galls, walnut husks, tree cones, and lots more. All of these make exceptionally colourfast inks."

That reference to "tree cones" made me wonder whether we could harvest the cones from my bald cypress tree to make ink!

And in trying to find out whether anyone has ever done that before (which the Internet was silent on), I found a reference to a bald cypress coloring page for Louisiana and a huge list of free printables for the U.S. States overall. There was a really nice map of the Louisiana Purchase -- so simple and just gets across perfectly how huge that tract of land was -- and I thought, I wonder what the rest of the coloring pages are for the states?

So, of course I thought I'd make myself (and you) a list.

Waldorf does the U.S. States in grades 4/5 and some of the art on these is too babyish for that age. In grade 4, you study the local history / geography / traditional industry of your area, and in grade 5 you learn about your home country and continent. For U.S. schools, that would mean learning all 50 states and doing projects or reports on the other countries in North America.

Also note that these are truly FREE but the link to save/print them can be a little hard to find on the webpage. For the word finds, you'll need to find the state you want on the list and click on that coloring page. On each webpage you then have to scroll down for quite a while until you see a big colored box that says

"Download the ________ Coloring Page Here."

My favorites are definitely the maps, but I like the state flags, state outlines, and the dates of admission as well. I think the map of the Great Lakes would be great to have on hand while reading Paddle-to-the-Sea!
