Picnic & Play: Mother Spider

Today Zac and I had both a story and a book of poetry. The story was "Mother Spider" from Tell Me a Story, page 40. We followed this very sweet mid-summer nature story with Spiders Spin Webs by Yvonne Winer. I love this book of poetry and can't believe it has gone out of print! Afterwards we headed to the farm, planning to keep an eye out for spider egg sacs or webs.

It was a busy and beautiful day at Dayempur Farm!

All of the farm staff and children gathered together and we started our day with some stretching. Then Zac and I went to help with egg washing. There were 18 1/2 dozen beautiful multi-colored free range chicken eggs to wash, dry, and pack in boxes today. He helped with every step of the process. When he got tired of eggs he headed over to the herbal medicine garden to play there. After all of our work was done, we had a wiffle ball game. Zac had never played, or even seen, a ballgame, so he had to learn everything about it. I discovered today that he's a left-handed batter! He did hit the ball twice and got to run around the bases so he was very excited. We had a delicious communal lunch outside on the picnic tables, and then it was time to head home for a well-deserved long nap.

Zac and I were on the "Waffles" team.
Go Waffles!
