Monday, Feb 21

    Grade 1 Four Seasons block

  • Circle Time
  • MLB - draw pictures of butter making, write sentences
  • Handwork - knit chicken

  • Handwork - wet felted acorns

  • Grade 3 Old Testament Stories block

  • MLB - add illustration and sentences for The Fall
  • hear two versions of the story of Cain and Abel
  • read "Cain and Abel," "Cain Conquers the Wolf," "When Eve Wept," "How Cain Slew Abel" from And There Was Light: From The Creation of the World to Noah's Ark by Jakob Streit (available for free as a downloadable PDF from The Online Waldorf Library)
  • read Cain and Abel: Finding the Fruits of Peace by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and compare/contrast it with Streit's retelling

  • Grade 6 Medieval History block

  • add Gregory the Great to MLB
  • add The Feudal System to MLB
  • begin biography #2 - "Charlemagne" chapter from The World of Walls: The Middle Ages in Western Europe by Polly Schoyer Brooks and Nancy Zinsser Walworth - born 742


Tuesday, Feb 22

    Grade 1 Four Seasons block

  • Circle Time - Two Tall Gentlemen finger play from The Breathing Circle, On a Monday Morning verse, I'm a Tall Tall Tree song
  • MLB - draw acorn pictures, write sentences
  • Handwork - knitting
  • "Mama and Papa Mouse and the Mushrooms" story
  • set up scene with wooden mushrooms from the Grapat mandala set

  • Grade 3 Old Testament Stories block

  • begin watercolor pencil artwork of the two sacrificial fires

    "Cain built an altar of huge boulders and heaped much wood upon it. Abel's altar was small, with but little wood, for he was not as strong as Cain."

    "The smoke from Abel's sacrifice rose heavenward like a flower, but Cain's fire burned wildly. The flames spread in confusion. The smoke billowed near the ground and stung his eyes."


  • Grade 6 Medieval History block

  • make Medieval Pottage (chicken stock, green split peas, oatmeal, onion, mushrooms, sugar, salt, saffron)
  • continue to read biography of Charlemagne

  • plus...

    lots of free play outside on an unseasonably warm day

    making Time Capsules in beautifully decoupaged amber glass bottles... NOT to be opened until 3/3/33!


Wednesday, Feb 23

    Grade 1 Four Seasons block

  • Circle Time - Two Tall Gentlemen finger play from The Breathing Circle, On a Monday Morning verse, I'm a Tall Tall Tree song, "Tap Your Sticks" and "Woodpecker" songs from Rhythms on Parade
  • MLB - draw mushroom pictures, write sentences
  • Handwork - knitting
  • "Mama and Papa Mouse and the Leaves" story
  • Sensory Bin / Auditory Discrimination - do we have anything in the house that sounds exactly like the crunch of dry autumn leaves? brainstorm, fill a sensory bin with different materials, remove socks, walk on each item barefoot, make a data table to record our results

    marshmallows and bubble wrap were the materials I provided to kick off the activity; the rest of the ideas were theirs:

      marshmallows - no

      bubble wrap - no

      crumpled paper - somewhat

      plastic grocery bags - somewhat

      potato chips in chip bag - somewhat

      onion skins - the winner!!!

  • recall Research Projects - Viking Reports
