Frog Hunt

We are having so much fun at camp! I have the next few weeks off so I want to take the time to type up some of the activities that we have really liked.

Hunting for frogs, of course, is a classic pond-side activity.

If you are collecting frogs and creating a habitat for them for a few days in order to observe them, I recommend Earth Mother by Ellen Jackson. It is my favorite Circle of Life book.

In our case, before the 8-9 group lets their frogs go this afternoon, we are going to do one more fun thing with them. The 6-7 group has been learning about animal tracks and Frog is one of the cards in Match a Track.

Frog tracks are very cute! So that got me thinking. The 6-7 group set up a bunch of food items last night and sprinkled flour all around them in order to try to capture the foodprints of any animal that came to investigate/eat the foods. What if they sprinkled flour on the ground by the lake... and then the 8-9 group set their frogs down on the other side of the flour... and the frogs hopped through the flour on their way to the water... and we captured some frog tracks!!! I can't wait to try this this afternoon and see what happens!
