Art History Kids 2024 Lineup

Last year I was surprised to find that Art History had become one of my new favorite subjects to teach! I always like to give a shoutout to Lotus Stewart at Art History Kids because she was the one who gave me the confidence. I was so excited when her 2023 artist list came out. I've already chosen MY list of 2023-2024 artists for this school year but this morning she just shared HER list of 2024 artists and I'm really excited to see who they will be!

This list simply means that if you join The Studio you'll get monthly lesson plans for these artists. You also get access to the past several years of lesson plans for the featured artist of the month (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023). Here's a list of archived artists! She has video lessons but I just use those for teacher background information. I LOVE the PDF lessons she provides! To me, it's definitely worth $29/month, because all of the planning is there to kick off your inspiration and the art projects she recommends are fantastic.

Happy to support Lotus's work and excited for 2024!

Okay, here it is:

January
Romero Britto

February

March
Faith Ringgold

April
Friedensreich Hundertwasser

June

September

October

update Sep 2024: revised to Canadian Artists

November

December
Marc Chagall

So as I'm looking at this I'm realizing something. She started The Studio in 2018 but recently she removed those archived lessons from her site and refreshed and redid some of the artists. Now it looks like she's thinking of doing the same for 2019 because a lot of the artists in the 2024 lineup are from 2019. So if you want to hop into The Studio and download the old 2019 PDFs before they are gone, that might be a good idea! I did that for 2018.

Here is the 2019 lineup:

January
Lascaux Cave Art

February
Faith Ringgold

March
Ancient Greek Art

April
Friedensreich Hundertwasser

May
Renaissance Art
Primavera by Sandro Botticelli
Madonna of the Rocks by Leonardo da Vinci
The School of Athens by Raphael Sanzio

June
Frida Kahlo

July
Pierre-Auguste Renoir

August
Marc Chagall

September
Monochromatic Masterpieces
The Old Guitarist by Pablo Picasso
Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh
The Dessert: Harmony in Red by Henri Matisse

October
Sonia Delaunay

November
Palatable Palettes
The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci
The Potato Eaters by Vincent van Gogh
Eating Figures (Quick Snack) by Wayne Thiebaud

December
Let It Snow
Hunters in the Snow by Pieter Bruegel the Elder
Train in the Snow by Claude Monet
Winter Landscapes by Wassily Kandinsky

I think she's doing this because she's settled on a monthly artist study, whereas when she was first starting out she would do more general themes. Like January 2018's "Furry Friends" which was Cat and Bird by Paul Klee, Self Portrait with Monkeys by Frida Kahlo, and Dog by Pablo Picasso.

Also I'm remembering that in the beginning she only had PDFs and not videos and so probably the feedback she's gotten is that people want videos for all of it. And so it just makes sense for her to refresh and redo some of those famous artists. I only use the PDFs though, so it never mattered to me! 😊

And I definintely want the Lascaux Cave Art packet for our Early Humans block so I'm downloading that right now!
