First session of Philosophy for the school year! We are using the book Little Big Minds: Sharing Philosophy with Kids by Marietta McCarty to drive our discussions. For Responsibility she suggests Rita Manning and Albert Camus.

pass out Philosophy journals

define "responsibility" in your journal by drawing a picture (no words)

EO - at home my responsibilities are having fun and doing art

FR - your duty, you do it all the time and you make sure it's done

Z - it's a house's responsibility to shelter a person

AAR - doing chores is your responsibility, you are your responsibility, it means you have to do something because no one else is going to do it

EO - something that I consider my responsibility is if I have a project that I'm doing and I just drop what I'm doing and walk away and never come back to it, well I started it, I got out all the things and I just left it, it's not finishing it to the end, when I got all that stuff out I considered it my responsibility to do the project all the way to the end and clean it up

Z - it's not my responsibility to monitor the other people in the classroom

FR (to me) - you're in charge of making sure we're safe
