Homemade Pasta Photos

Thank you to my dear friend Seaona for donating the pasta machine! It was such a great addition to our homeschooling adventures.

On Monday, the littlest children read From Wheat to Pasta: A Photo Essay by Robert Egan and looked at many different pasta shapes which could be strung on a necklace, then created and strung patterns.

On Tuesday, we all read this book again and made Homemade Pasta using a food processor, a pasta machine and this Homemade Pasta recipe from Gimme Some Oven. I used Bob's Red Mill Semolina Flour from the Co-op.

choosing the shapes for their pattern necklaces

threading is such a great fine motor skill

wrap tape around the end of the yarn to stiffen it
if you would prefer not to use a needle

finished!

the textures make for great sensory play for all ages

the first group takes a turn kneading the dough

wrapped in plastic wrap, the dough rests for 30 minutes

setting up the pasta machine

we cranked it through 10 times at setting #1
then once each at settings #2, 3, 4, 5, and 6

then we moved the cutting board to the other side of the table,
moved the handle to the cutting setting, and cranked it through

noodles!!!!!

we coiled the noodles into little nests and set them to dry for
30 minutes, then cooked them and ate them hot with the
homemade butter from last week and some Italian seasoning

delicious!!!!!
