The calendar project also gives us a chance to talk briefly about the 12 months (I recommend Anno's Counting Book for this) and the 7 days of the week. I didn't do the days of the week for the number 7 but it would have worked well. Eric Carle's book Today is Monday is my favorite book for this.
Jamie York has clocks & calendars in 2nd grade but in Waldorf it is traditionally done in 3rd grade. That is when we will work on memorizing them in earnest as well as learning the story behind each day/month name.
days of the week
I know that as soon as I read this book to Zac he will want to try it, and I should plan to have these foods for dinner on each day of the week. So I am planning to use our week off school for Thanksgiving for this project!
