Photos - The Story of Calendars week 1

This month the Bongos are studying how humans have measured time throughout history! All ages will be working together in the first few weeks to make their own 2024 Calendars, a special project and well-loved tradition.

In the second part of October, the Bongos will continue their study of Time with a focus on Clocks, including reading an analog clock and calculating elapsed time, and the Bobcats will work on learning their Roman Numerals. And I'm planning a special Garden Sundial field trip to wrap up the month!

We continued to read The Burgess Book of Nature Lore by Thornton W. Burgess at lunchtime. Our snacktime picture books this week related to our calendar art projects. They were Miss Suzy by Miriam Young (acorns), Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature by Joyce Sidman (fiddlehead ferns), and The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood (strawberries). I also introduced our artist of the month by reading Cloth Lullaby: The Woven Life of Louise Bourgeois by Amy Novesky.
