maybe Moomins are back on-trend!?! this morning (Fri Jan 31) I watched two new videos from people on YouTube who I routinely follow and both had Moomin references in them! Corrections Ep. 128 and Diane in Denmark
I'm really excited about this month, because my plan is to read some of the Moomin books to my students, and let them create their own little characters and write and illustrate short books about their adventures!
week of Feb 10:
Mon
- AM - start The Moomins and the Great Flood as a lunchtime read aloud, introduce project, let children brainstorm & draw characters
PM - read Who Will Comfort Toffle?, help each child write a letter to Miffle and put it outside (by the rosebush in Granddaddy's garden)
week of Feb 17:
Mon
- AM - continue to work on book writing project!
PM - read The Book About Moomin, Mymble and Little My, draw a picture of the fillyjonk when she has calmed herself
write and illustrate a "guess what happens next?" story of your own
week of Feb 24:
Mon
-
AM - look at some examples of the artwork in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: Tove Jansson Edition
Making ‘The Wild Robot’ Even Wilder
The New York Times - Sep 18, 2024
choose a chapter book you have read for SSR and create brand new concept art for it
PM - read The Dangerous Journey: A Tale of Moomin Valley
write and illustrate your own story about a dangerous journey
In addition to the Art History lesson for my regular school group (age 7-13), I'll have a Monday afternoon Art History class for early childhood (age 5-7). I think the "littles" will love Tove Jansson!
