I recommend joining Lotus Stewart's Art History Kids website (The Studio) and getting access to her past lesson plans. I like her work, and find it's really helpful to have so many ideas that I can use as a jumping off point.

week of May 5:
Mon
- discuss stencils, use them to decorate 2024-2025 portfolio boxes
week of May 12:
Mon
- read Banksy Graffitied Walls and Wasn't Sorry by Fausto Gilberti
discussion questions on p.18 of packet
"Persuasive Poster" activity on p.25
week of May 19:
Mon
- read Banksy quote on p.5 of packet
look at samples of artwork from Art History Kids
watch Love Is In The Bin video
discussion questions on p.7 of packet
find images of paintings
let children cut them into strips with scissors; is it still art?
is the art the shredded painting?
OR is the art the act of shredding the painting?

Wed
- find images of buildings in old National Geographics
"Pretend Graffiti" activity on p.23 (with Sharpies)
week of May 26:
Mon/Tue/Wed
- read from Oh Rats! The Story of Rats and People at snack time
Thu
-
"Simplified Sketches and Stencils" activity on p.26
"Cardboard Graffiti" activity on p.27
how to do our final graffiti activity????
with washable paint on the tree trunks?
with dry erase markers on the windows?
alongside parents as the "epic play" activity at our End of Year Party?
with chalks on student individual chalkboards (15 inch x 20 inch)?
with chalks on the Hearthsong Chalkboard Fantasy Fort Kit panels?
In addition to the Art History lesson for my regular school group (age 7-13), I'll have a Monday afternoon Art History class for early childhood (age 5-7). I think the "littles" will love Banksy!
Note: For their culminating activity, we read The Quiet Place by Sarah Stewart and they made box forts and decorated them with stencils. For an extra "spatial skills" challenge, I broke all the boxes down first and they had to look at a flattened box and try to figure out if they would fit inside it!
