it was a very tricky kit!
thank you again to Ms. Shelby and Ms. Anna for their help
This year I decided our Class Play -- which the children write and put on themselves -- would be based on a place we study in our Shelters block "Wonderful Houses Around the World." The yurt (or ger) is always a favorite. So I decided on Mongolian culture! I looked through all of the resources I already had, and also just finished purchasing a bunch of new books:
- The Khan's Daughter: A Mongolian Folktale retold by Lawrence Yep
Warrior Princess: The Story of Khutulun by Sally Deng
Horse Song: The Naadam of Mongolia (Adventures Around the World) by Ted and Betsy Lewin
Story of the Mongolian Tent House by Dashdondog Jamba
My Little Round House by Helen Mixter
The Very True Legend of the Mongolian Death Worms by Sandra Fay
Saving the Ghost of the Mountain: An Expedition Among Snow Leopards in Mongolia (Scientists in the Field by Syd Montgomery
The Eagle Huntress: The True Story of the Girl Who Soared Beyond Expectations by Aisholpan Nurgaiv with Liz Welch
Over the Autumn Break I will read all of them and decide which ones to share with the class as we learn more about this country and plan our play. (Pro Tip: The Dewey Decimal number for Mongolia is 951.7.)
There are also several wonderful family-friendly documentaries that I found:
-
The Eagle Huntress - G
available on Amazon Prime
The Story of the Weeping Camel - PG
available at archive.org
And here are some just-for-adults resources I've found interesting as well:
