9 World Records

I'm working with a nine-year-old student on Zoom and she has requested a special MLB topic: World Records. This reminds me of when I had a child who wanted to learn Amazing Animal Facts. Same age! It's a very nine-year-old topic.

So just in case this is useful to anyone, I'm going to keep track of what we do for this block. And here's the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame!

Tallest-ever person

Robert Pershing Wadlow

Why Robert Wadlow will be the tallest person ever, forever
    Guiness World Records

compare measuring tools (measuring tape, ruler, meterstick)

practice with measuring tape: find the circumference of your head

measure your height by lying down flat on the floor with your feet against a wall, put a pencil on the carpet at the top of your head, place the end of the measuring tape at the wall (you can put a book on it to keep it steady) and then measure the distance to the pencil

to measure the height of the tallest person who ever lived, place the end of the measuring tape against the wall as before and unroll it to the end of the tape (150 cm), place a pencil at 150 cm

subtract 150 cm from 272 cm

move the end of the tape to the pencil, measure an additional 122 cm

measure and cut a piece of yarn 272 cm long

look at picture of Robert Wadlow

add record to MLB, tape in an envelope with the piece of yarn in it
