Week Twelve Photos

These photos go with the post Week Twelve Notes (Nov 28 - Dec 1).

A huge thank you to all of the families for the loan of the space heaters to keep us warm while we waited for the new furnace to arrive on Friday!

a wonderfully cozy electric fireplace

I got little frog stickers to go in the center of our cards for Jump One...
they are perfect!

the children like this game so much we will get Jump Two and Jump Three

we begin the 2023 Calendar project

first step... carefully writing in all the month names and dates

in preparation for our Aesop's Fables & Puppetry Class Play next month, the Pterodactyls inventory my wool felt finger puppets

during indoor recess, the Plastic Utensils play "Art Class"

in our study of Mary Blair, the children first make concept art for books they have read or heard, and then translate those drawings into paintings

and Zac's vision of the barn in Farmer Boy

painting above, drawing below

here's another idea for the White Rabbit

many people have been inspired by our read aloud, Alice in Wonderland

in the "Art Class" game, they come up with a recipe for Mock Turtle soup:
pot, water, sprinkle of beauty, carrot, celery, turtle

the Decimal Fraction Board and Decimal Fraction Exercise

Board Game Tuesday

Adsumudi has been a big hit!

the Pterodactyls have been given the job of smashing all of the pumpkins

we are hopeful that some volunteer pumpkins might sprout in the Mulch Mountain next year

this is a job they take to with much glee

hmmm... how about if we smash them with a brick?

we really enjoy the illustrations in the other version of A Million Dots

this one is by Sven Völker
and the number of dots in the illustration doubles each time

I like that there's a number sentence on the left and the sum is also written out in its full form on the right

the children love that this book goes PAST a million!

and the fold-out pages are very cool

Multiplication Mosaic #19

with the Mortensen material

solving for the missing factor
4 how many times is 12?

they each take a problem and then share the answers with the group

it takes two days to solve all the problems, then the two factors are used in a coordinate grid

fill in each square with the indicated color and a picture will form!

the Checkerboard is a more advanced multiplication material and can be used with multiplicands up to the millions place and multipliers up to the thousands place!

playing with the caravan during indoor recess

a mama cat, Apricot, is born!

next this student will knit a little purple kitten (to be named Plum)

"Kissing Balloons" in Science Club

the children name them Romeo and Juliet because we just can't keep them apart

more fun with Bernoulli!

after each experiment they take notes in their Science Club notebooks

the Long Division Material
aka the Racks & Tubes (or Test Tube Division)

stuffed animal patterns are best for beginning knitters
they are easy, fun, adorable, and can be made in any size and color!

the Kitten

the Turtle

the Lamb

I find something new to add to the Dangling Modifiers list I keep going at all times (he fights himself?)

we will have a Grammar block in March so this will really come in handy!
