Morning Math - have Pterodactyls collect acorns and use them to solve Autumn Color by Number with Sums (PDF) from Nova Natural

Inventors - recall and add Margaret Knight to Inventors MLB, read Balloons over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade by Melissa Sweet at snack time and discuss our Class Play (Aesop's Fables & Puppetry) in December



Art History - Is It Sculpture? day 1

Soap Sculpture Exploration
with clay tools plus 2 bars of Ivory soap and 1 toothpick per child
(toothpick is a discreet way to connect the sculpture with its base)



Lunch / Read Aloud - chap 9 & 10 of The Witch Who Saved Halloween by Marian Place



Recess - freeze tag, building "nooks" in the woods

Morning Meeting - conversation about helping a younger friend vs. doing it for them (we want to support but not create helplessness)

Ghostie Numbers and Incredible Equations - solving examples with fractions, exponents, advanced math punctuation (brackets vs. parentheses), Order of Operations, a vinculum, multiple equal signs

Morning Work Time - Projects of Personal Interest for Plastic Utensils, recalling and adding Tony Sarg to the MLB for Pterodactyls

look at examples of articulated and non-articulated puppets from my collection (marionette duck, felt finger puppet mouse, All-Species Puppet Parade tiger, professional quality Hansel & Gretel marionettes)

SWI - recall that < article > comes from the Latin word for "part" and wonder whether it is related to < articulated > (it is!)

Spooky Snack Story - read The Little Witch and the Riddle by Bruce Degen



Lunch / Read Aloud - chap 11 & 12 of The Witch Who Saved Halloween

three sculptures (two bronze, one mahogany) and a lithograph by Barbara Hepworth (our artist for Oct)

two stabile-mobiles by Alexander Calder (our artist for Sep)

one painting by Jackson Pollock (our artist for Dec)

plus many more amazing pieces of art! we had a great time!!
