a wonderful exploration for this would be painting a field of corn
You could also grind cornmeal by hand using a mortar and pestle, make a recipe which uses cornmeal or fresh corn, or plant a Native American garden as a family (corn, beans, squash, sunflower)!

This is one of my favorite biomes! My first job out of college was teaching on the Navajo Reservation with Americorps. If you read The Goat in the Rug, follow it up with plant dyeing wool roving or yarn. I find crockpot dyeing to be the easiest way!
If you are studying the Havasupai people, you will definintely want to read Grand Canyon by Jason Chin.
Another wonderful book for bringing the desert biome to life, specifically the Sonoran Desert, is Cactus Hotel by Brenda Z. Guiberson. The Apache were one of the Native people in this area.
